The eastern coastal state of Odisha faced nature’s wrath on Friday as the ‘extremely severe’ Cyclone Fani ran through it, damaging infrastructure and also leaving people dead. It is exactly after two decades of the super cyclone that had wreaked havoc in the state, killing 10,000 people. The administration took its best measures to evacuate people to safety before the horrific storm lashed the state and left trails of massive devastation.

Other states like West Bengal were also expected to bear brunt of the cyclone – a phenomenon which is not common in these parts in April. Several trains were cancelled on the eastern route while the airports in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata were shut down in apprehension. The cyclone was expected to transform into a severe cyclonic storm gradually. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed solidarity and announced that the Centre has released a relief package of Rs 1,000 crore.

Virender Sehwag shares emergency phone numbers

As the cyclone carried out the destruction and the relief personnel were doing their best, the country’s cricketing fraternity expressed their concern over the plight of the affected. India captain Virat Kohli came up with his solidarity with the victims in a tweet as did India’s limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma and Yusuf Pathan.

Senior spinner Harbhajan Singh and former India opener Virender Sehwag who also shared a list of emergency phone numbers. Cricket commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle also expressed his concern on social media.

Kohli, Rohit and Harbhajan are currently busy playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore had a forgettable outing this year as they started off with six straight losses and found it impossible to make up in the remaining games. They are the only team to have crashed out of the fray this year till now.

Rohit’s Mumbai Indians made the playoffs following a super-over win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad while the Chennai Super Kings, for which Harbhajan plays, were the first team this season to qualify for the last four.
