Virat Kohli shakes a leg while fielding at Adelaide
The poor outing in the first innings has not dampened Kohli's mood as he was seen enjoying his time out on the field.
Contrary to popular speculations, Virat Kohli failed to get going in the first innings of the ongoing Test against Australia. The India skipper enjoys a stunning track record in Tests Down Under. Kohli has not looked back since scoring a memorable ton in Adelaide on his first tour during the infamous 0-4 loss in 2011-12.
In the following series in 2014-15, he amassed a staggering 692 runs in 8 innings at an average of 86.5 with the help of four hundreds and one fifty. On the last Test tour, he had scored two centuries in the very first Test at Adelaide to take India close to a miraculous win. Kohli’s aggregate in the series was the highest for any Indian batsman in any series in Australia.
Not surprisingly, expectations were sky high from the 30-year old when he walked out to bat with India in deep trouble. The visitors had lost both of their openers – KL Rahul and Murali Vijay – for just 15 runs on the board. However, he could score only 3 runs before uppishly hitting a Pat Cummins delivery towards gully which was taken brilliantly by a diving Usman Khawaja.
But it seems the poor outing in the first innings has not dampened Kohli’s mood as he was seen enjoying his time out in the slip cordon on the third day of the game. The Indian skipper is one of the most animated characters on the field, was seen swaying as the crowd cheered from the stands.

Test in balance:
India, meanwhile, overcame a fighting fifty from Travis Head to bowl out the hosts for 235 and take a handy 15-run lead. Head and Mitchell Starc started the proceedings with the bat with Australia still 59 runs behind of India’s first innings total of 250. The duo added 13 runs to the overnight score before Jasprit Bumrah broke the stand by dismissing Starc.
Head was then joined in by Nathan Lyon in the middle. The two threatened to give Australia the lead but Mohammed Shami dismissed Lyon and Josh Hazlewood on successive deliveries to fold up the Australian innings.
