After a stunning performance in the shortest format of the game, Indian Team is all set to take on Englishmen for a three-match one-day series which is scheduled to start on 12th July at Nottingham. Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has advised Virat Kohli to bat at all-important number four spot in 50 over games as well. It is believed that if skipper Virat Kohli bats at number 4 spot, it will provide more solidity to the team.
In past, India seemed to be struggling with this spot having already tried the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, and Ajinkya Rahane it is important for the skipper to back his strengths and play at four. However, if the stats are to believed the run-machine Kohli seems to be most successful at number three spot and if he sacrifices his place, it will altogether be a big decision.
Virat Should Continue To Bat At Number Four
In past, Virat batted at number four in 2011 World Cup when the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag, and Gautam Gambhir occupying the first three spots. At the launch of the UK launch of his book ‘A Century is Not Enough’ Ganguly said, “If you look at this T20I series, I think they have formed the proper batting line-up. With Rahul at number three and Virat Kohli batting at number four, I think the problem has been sorted out. And I firmly believe it is also the right thing to do in ODI format as well”.
It will be interesting to see if Virat bats at number three or four, and if he takes the number three spot then it will be a tough decision of either playing Suresh Raina or man-in-form KL Rahul at number four. However, all speculations will only come to rest when the Indian team will take the field for the first encounter.
