If there is one England batsman who has stood up to Virat Kohli’s men in the ongoing Test series between England and India, it is Joe Root. The England skipper has scored a whopping 386 runs in the 4 innings that he has played in this series, and has scored his runs at an average of 128.66.

The right-handed batsman has also plundered 2 centuries and a half-century in the series thus far. And, Monty Panesar has opened up on how to scalp the wicket of Joe Root. Stating that the way to dismiss Root is to bowl a fifth stump line, Panesar added that Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah executed the plan well in the second innings of the second Test.

The 39-year-old Panesar further added that Joe Root plays the pull shot well and the Indian bowlers should not bowl short deliveries to him.

“The way to get him out is to bowl at the fifth stump line and outside the off stump. His wicket was planned by Virat in the second innings and Bumrah executed it well. Virat should again make a plan against Root. Root plays the pull shot really well, so don’t bowl short pitch balls to him,” said Monty Panesar as quoted by the Times of India.

Both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have the ability to put pressure on the batsmen: Monty Panesar

Monty Panesar further reckoned that Virat Kohli should bring Bumrah into the attack as soon as Joe Root walks out to the middle. The former left-arm spinner also opined that both Mohammed Siraj, as well as Jasprit Bumrah, have the ability to pressurize the batsmen.

“Virat should bring in Bumrah straightway whenever Root comes to the crease. Both Bumrah and Siraj have the ability to put pressure on a batman from the word go. That’s what they did with Root in the second innings and the captain lost his wicket,” added Panesar.

Panesar also said that India should frustrate Joe Root and make him change his game plan. The England cricketer concluded by stating that this is the tactic through which India can scalp the wicket of Joe Root early.

“You need to frustrate Root and force him to change his position. He likes to bat with a flow. If the flow is not happening, he will change his position and game plan. That’s what India would want. That’s the way India can get Root out early,” Monty Panesar concluded.
