Virat Kohli shows heartfelt gesture for Morne Morkel
Virat Kohli displayed his humility when he went up to Morkel and asked about his well-being after he seemingly injured his back.
Cricket is a contest between bat and ball. It’s a game where oppositions try and get under the nerves of each other. The cricket-field has been a witness to several heated altercations over the years. However, apart from the intensity, cricketers have also shown their humbleness and epitomised sportsman spirit. One such occasion took place during the fourth ODI between India and South Africa in Johannesburg.
The friendly moment
Virat Kohli has been in prime form and has accomplished yet another half-century. The pitch didn’t have enough demons to halt Kohli’s run flow and it required something special to dismiss him. Morne Morkel is renowned for hitting the back-of-a-length and doesn’t mind hurling short-pitched deliveries at the batsmen. However, Morne Morkel nearly accounted for his dismissal in the 22nd over of India’s innings.
Morkel bowled a short delivery and Kohli tried to flick the ball through the mid-wicket region. However, the Indian skipper mistimed his shot. Subsequently, the ball took his bat’s leading edge and spooned up in the air. Morkel was quick to figure out the opportunity and dived full length on to his right in his follow-through. Nevertheless, his hands couldn’t get under the ball and Kohli survived the scare.
To add insult to injury, Morkel landed awkwardly on the pitch and laid down on the ground, clutching his back. Thereafter, Virat Kohli displayed his humility when he went up to Morkel and asked about his well-being after he seemingly injured his back.

The eventual dismissal
Virat Kohli looked in exemplary touch and threatened to notch yet another hundred on an easy-going pitch at the Wanderers. However, against the run of play, Chris Morris accounted for his dismissal. In an attempt to clear the cover-fielder, Kohli perished after scoring 75 runs off 83 balls, which included seven boundaries and one outrageous six off Lungi Ngidi.
