The rise of Virat Kohli from being the U19 World Cup winner to the captain of the Indian cricket team has been superb. He has owned the cricketing world ever since he has made it to the highest level. Currently, he is one of the best, if not the best cricketer in the world. Many believe, he is already the legend in the making and is the most likely candidate to break the records of the maestro and his idol Sachin Tendulkar. However, the skipper of the Indian team still remembers the nerve-wracking first day with the senior members of the Indian cricket team.
As far as his antics on the field is concerned, Kohli is never far away from the action. He always wants to be involved in the game and is the most dedicated player while fielding as well. His fearless attitude has been lauded by many but he has taken a lot of efforts to become successful at the international level over the last 10 years.
Recalls the memorable moment
Virat Kohli was first selected into the Indian in 2008 after returning as the World Cup winning captain of the U19 team in the same year. He has now revealed his feelings when he was picked for the national side and cleared that he felt it was a rumour.
“I clearly remember sitting with my mom and watching the news on the day of the selection meeting. My name just flashed on the TV but I thought they might just be spreading a rumour or something like that. Then five minutes later, I got a call from the Board that I had been selected. I got goosebumps. I was shaking. It was a very special day,” Kohli was quoted as saying by Times Now. The Indian skipper also remembers his first day in the dressing room and how the presence of the senior players made him nervous.
“I clearly remember walking into the team meeting. I was asked to give a speech in the team room. It was nerve-wracking for me with so many great Indian players there. They were looking at me. Which we now do to younger guys to intimidate them, make them nervous (smiles). These are my first memories,” he added.
