Virat Kohli stripped off the no. 1 rank in ICC T20 batsmen ranking: The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the latest ICC Twenty 20 international rankings after the end of the India v South Africa 3-match T20I series. The Indian team slipped 2 places in the team rankings while Test skipper and batting mainstay Virat Kohli was stripped off his number 1 position in the ICC T20 batsmen ranking.

India lost the T20I series to South Africa 2-0, with the 3rd game of the series at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata being abandoned due to unfit playing conditions (wet outfield). What helped Proteas’ cause in beating the home team in the T20I series was the fact that Kohli could not find his touch in both the innings that he played as he scored only 44 runs with just 1 four and 3 sixes. If a player like Kohli, who the Indian batting line-up is reliant on doesn’t click, it adds the pressure on the other batsmen and the effect was evidentially visible.

After losing the home series to South Africa, the number 4 ranked T20I team before the start of the series has dropped down to 6th in the ICC Twenty20 ranking with 1537 points and 110 ratings in its account. Asian counterparts Sri Lanka are at the top of the tree with 1891 points and 126 ratings. South Africa not only beat India but also took over them in the rankings and is places above team India with 2879 points and 115 ratings.
