Virat Kohli tops the charts for most double hundreds as captain in Tests
He surpassed Brian Lara by scoring his sixth double century.
The India skipper Virat Kohli slammed yet another double-century in whites in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka in Delhi. He has been shattering records since the series against Sri Lanka has begun and has backed the scores of 104* and 213 with another huge knock. He looks all set to face Proteas in their own den and would love to continue in the same vein. However, he also became the first captain in the history of Test cricket to score to cross the 200-run mark six times since taking over the reins of the Indian team.
Kohli surpassed the legendary Brian Lara of West Indies who had five scores of more than 200 to his name while leading the team during his illustrious career. The 29-year-old had equalled his record only in the last innings during the second Test match in Nagpur when had smashed 213 runs. During that innings, he had gone past the likes of Sir Donald Bradman, Michael Clarke and Graeme Smith who were few of the best cricketers of their generation.
Most double tons in Tests as captain
Virat Kohli has been leading the front ever since he has become the captain and has thrived under different circumstances. It has taken only 50 innings for him to score six double hundreds as captain. Also only 17 months ago, he had scored his first score in excess of 200 and has never looked since then.
300 on the cards?
There is no stopping the Indian captain right now as he is just caressing the bowlers to all the parks with his sublime hitting. Amazingly, he hasn’t looked in any trouble barring a couple of balls in his knock. He is unbeaten on 225 off just 263 balls and has surely got the chance to reach the elusive triple century. If he manages to score a triple century, he will be the third Indian to do so after Virender Sehwag who has done it twice and Karun Nair.
