Virat Kohli tops the Twitter IPL XI despite lacklustre season
Ben Stokes is the only foreign player to feature in the list.
We have reached the playoffs stage of IPL 10 and all through the group stage we have seen some terrific performances being dished out by all the teams. While Mumbai and Pune have finished as the top 2 teams, Kolkata and Hyderabad will fight it out in the eliminator tomorrow. But not only their performance on the field has been scrutinised, they have been performing on social media platforms as well and Twitter has been keeping a track on it.
Twitter has now made a List of IPL XI featuring the name of the players whose name has been mentioned on Twitter the most times during the 10th edition of the extravaganza. Some of the names have been baffling, to say the least as they haven’t performed to their potential. Virat Kohli stands on the top without any notable performances in the league.
“From the action on the field to the special player Twitter emojis, cricket fans had plenty to cheer about on Twitter during this IPL season. The Twitter Dream XI is a collection of the most mentioned players during the season. India’s biggest cricket superstars make up a majority of the list with Virat Kohli topping the charts despite a disappointing season.
Ben Stokes truly captured the imagination of fans on Twitter as the only overseas player to make the list. Much more to look forward to in the Playoffs,” Aneesh Madani, the Head of Sports Partnership, India and South East Asia, Twitter was quoted as saying by News 18.
Apart from Kohli the squad features, KKR captain Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane, MI captain Rohit Sharma and GL captain Suresh Raina. The two veterans of Indian cricket, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni came next along with overseas recruit Ben Stokes being the only foreigner in the list. The bowling line-up comprises of all 3 Indian bowlers. While Umesh Yadav is the only bowler from the current generation, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan make up the rest.
