It was a wonderful moment for the Indian cricket team and for retired cricketer Ashish Nehra. At Nehra’s farewell party, Virat Kohli and former India cricketer, Virender Sehwag had a remarkable moment. Captain Kohli decorated Nehra’s face with cake. A video that surfaced on social media shows that Nehra was a bit emotional.
He offered a small piece of the cake to the Indian captain who initially refused to eat as he maintains a pretty strict diet but Nehra insisted and Kohli ate it. His former Delhi and India team-mate Sehwag also hugged and congratulated Nehra on his retirement from all forms of cricket.
The veteran left-arm pacer bade adieu to the game after playing the first T20I of a three-match T20 series against New Zealand at his home ground Kotla. He bowled the last over. The spectators cheered and backed him right through. Before bowling, the final delivery of his career Nehra was struggling to control his emotion.

Kohli on the photograph with Nehra in 2003
Meanwhile, Kohli spoke up about the viral photograph with Nehra in 2003. “That was back in 2003 after he had come back from the World Cup. I was 13 then and struggling for a place in the school team. To have played 19 years is very hard for a fast bowler. I know how professional he’s been and how hard he’s worked. He deserved this kind of a farewell with the crowd cheering him. He can now spend time with his family, he’s got a beautiful family. We’ll stay in touch but we’ll miss him and I wish him all the best,” he said.
