Virat Kohli wants the new coach to be given a 3-year contract
Current coach Anil Kumble was awarded a 1-year contract.
As India gears up to take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a high-voltage encounter on June 4 at Edgbaston, the team, especially the captain and the coach, have been shrouded by a lot of controversies which do not seem to end. If the rumour mill is to be lent an ear, there is a rift between the coach Anil Kumble and young captain Virat Kohli, due to which it is widely expected that Kumble will not be re-elected as the coach after his tenure ends, despite the team’s rich performance under his 1-year tenure.
Meanwhile, latest reports suggest that Kohli wants the new coach of the team to be given a contract for a period of three years, rather than just one, as was give to Kumble last year. If the captain’s request is paid heed to, the new coach will be with the team for the two World Cups – the ODI World Cup in 2019 and the World T20 in 2020.
The BCCI has put an application for the post of the head coach on its official website and those who meet their criteria have applied for the post. Meanwhile, the relation between Kohli and Kumble is getting bad to worse. Amitabh Chaudhary, BCCI’s acting secretary, continues to deny any rift between the two.
