Virat Kohli warned by umpire as Indian fielder shouts 'two' while New Zealand batsmen take a single

The tour of New Zealand ended on a dismal note for Team India as they lost the second Test by seven wickets to lose the two-match series 0-2. The tour had started in a great manner for Virat Kohli and his teammates as they won the T20Is 5-0. However, nothing went their way after that. The Black Caps clean swept the three-match ODI series and continued that run in Tests too.

India lost the must-win second Test in Christchurch by seven wickets as New Zealand totally dominated them. The match looked set for a thrilling finish when the Virat Kohli-led side bowled out New Zealand for 235 to take a seven-run lead. However, the Kiwi bowlers did not let India capitalize on it as they bowled out the world number one Test side for just 124, their lowest total in four innings of the series.

All eyes were on Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari when day three started with India reeling at 90 for 6. However, both the batsmen failed to deliver as India were all out for a paltry 124. In reply, New Zealand crossed the finishing line in 36 overs by losing three wickets. Their openers Tom Latham and Tom Blundell did not give India any chance of a comeback as they added 103 runs and went on to score fifties.

Umpire Richard Kettleborough warns Virat Kohli

While New Zealand’s second innings did not witness any drama, there was a moment of controversy when the Indian fielders were caught trying to dodge Latham and Blundell. The incident took place in the fourth over of the innings. An Indian fielder was heard shouting “two” in the fourth over during New Zealand’s chase although the batsmen were taking a single.

Umpire Richard Kettleborough heard that and quickly approached Virat Kohli for some talk. He was seen warning the India skipper who tried to justify his player’s actions. Kohli tried to suggest that he was just trying to alert the fielder at the fine leg of the possibility of a second run.

“No shouting two,” Kettleborough told Kohli. “You shouted two there.” Kettleborough then seemed unimpressed by Kohli’s explanation and was heard saying: “No you’re not, you shouted here, enough please.”
