Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan is confident that India’s star batter Virat Kohli will be back at his best against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 Group A fixture. Kohli’s form has been one of the talking points in the build-up to the multi-nation tournament as the 33-year-old has not scored a century for nearly three years in international cricket. His numbers have gone down across formats although he has been giving contributions in odd games.
However, his real test lies in the upcoming Asia Cup as the competition for spots in the Indian team is packed and he will have to step up soon. The right-hander was not part of the West Indies and Zimbabwe tours, and last played an international game against England in July. He did not have much of an impact in that series across formats and failed to register a single half-century. All eyes will be on him now with the whole country looking up to him for an inspiring performance.
In big matches, Virat Kohli always performs: Asghar Afghan
Afghan opined that Kohli will definitely come up with a standout performance against Pakistan and felt that the latter has always performed in big games. He noted Kohli’s desire to get among the runs again and expects Kohli to give his “200 per cent” against Pakistan in the upcoming fixture.
“He’ll perform (against Pakistan). In big matches, he always performs. Although many things depend upon luck, he’s hungry for runs and will give his 200 per cent against Pakistan,” Asghar Afghan said on ‘BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show’ on CricTracker.
Kohli was the top scorer for India in the previous encounter against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 and helped his side to post a decent total when the team was in trouble with a 57-run knock. The India-Pakistan game is scheduled to take place on the 28th of August (Sunday) at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE.
