Virat Kohli will go down as one of the greatest captains for India: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar is impressed with the leadership qualities of Virat Kohli.
Sunil Gavaskar, the former India skipper, feels Virat Kohli will go down as one of the greatest captains the Indian team has had. Virat has impressed everyone with his leadership skills so far. He was won every bilateral series and India reached the final of the ICC Champions Trophy in June earlier this year. Gavaskar also opined that the current Indian team is flexible in all departments and has the capability of being the greatest ever in the history of Indian cricket.
They are in the middle of a dream run in the limited overs format under the leadership of the prolific Indian batsman. Since taking over from MS Dhoni in January this year, Kohli has excelled with the bat as well and is now second in the list of most centuries in ODI cricket. He is now only behind the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar who ended with a whopping 49 ODI centuries.
The balance of the team is so good
The Little Master was all praise of the Indian skipper. He said that Kohli has brought the flair to his side like the iconic skipper Tiger Pataudi. He also highlighted his contribution in cultivating a culture in the team that was rooted in physical fitness and ruthlessness. The cricketer turned commentator was amazed by the depth of the squad and said that a player of Ravichandran Ashwin‘s calibre was finding it hard to make the playing XI.
Earlier, after the victory in the third ODI in Indore, the Indian maestro had praised the team for overcoming the tough situations to beat the mighty Aussies.
“Well, comparisons are not quite correct but this is a very, very good team. I think by the time this team finishes, I think it is going to go down as the greatest Indian one-day team ever. Because the balance is so good. The batting is right down to number 8 or 9. You have bowlers who can bowl, whatever, whenever they are asked and therefore, I think you take all aspects into consideration and you know that this is a really, really special team, captained by a very special player,” he said while speaking to NDTV.
The Kohli led Indian team will play the remaining two matches of the 5-match series in Bengaluru and Nagpur on Thursday and Sunday. They will look to whitewash the Kangaroos and gain a psychological advantage ahead of the T20I series.
