In spite of having been left out of the side, Harbhajan Singh certainly believes that Virat Kohli can certainly go on to lead the Indian team to greater heights. Kohli, who took over from former India skipper MS Dhoni has led the team in Test matches ever since the latter’s retirement from Test cricket in the fall of 2014.
The 36-year old, who was a prominent part of the Indian squad for the better part of the decade has been ousted from his place in the side by the rising stars of Indian cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin especially has been in impressive form in the previous two Test series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. This will be Virat Kohli’s first trip to the Caribbean as skipper of the Indian team.
Bhajji, as he is fondly known, appeared on a local television show and commended the way Kohli conducted himself.
The veteran off-spinner, appearing on the popular television show, Aap Ki Adalat, said that Kohli was indeed the man to take India forward.
“It’s good to see the way Virat Kohli conducts himself. I feel this is the brilliant way forward for Indian cricket. Going to play with the right body language, fighting it out for India with a zeal to get the right result, we need such a spirit, which Virat Kohli has.”
Although having not featured of late, Harbhajan Singh is still the third highest wicket-taker in both Tests and ODIs. He has also appeared in 103 Tests and 236 ODIs for India in his massive 18-year long international career.
“Whether it’s his own or he may have taken it from me, I feel it’s a great sign for Indian cricket, to take India to difficult heights,” he added.
