It is very difficult for players to perform consistently for the nation. A player goes through good and bad periods throughout his career. The way a player bounces back from his bad form determines his character and hunger to perform. Virat Kohli has been one of the best batsmen in the modern era and has done well for India in all three formats. He is one of the few players who is comfortable facing any line and length against any bowler in the world.
Under Virat Kohli, the team has had a golden run in the test format as they dominated the home leg in India winning everything that came their way. It seemed that captaincy brought the best out of Kohli as he piled runs matches after matches. He is having hundreds of breakfast, Lunch and dinner. He has won several awards for his performances the latest of them being the CEAT Cricket Rating awards for the International Cricketer of the Year.
King Kohli does it again
Kohli was not present for the award and Rohit Sharma to collect the trophy on behalf of the captain. The run machine is currently recovering from a neck injury that has ruled him out of the County Championship. He will undergo a fitness test at the NCA that will determine his participation in the limited overs series in England. Kohli’s presence in England is key and if he does not recover in time, it will hurt India’s chances of doing well overseas.
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was presented the International Batsman of the Year Award while Shubhman Gill won the U19 Player of the Year award. Indian cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, who single-handedly took the women’s team to the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup with her breath-taking knock of 171 not out against Australia in the semi-final, won the Outstanding Innings of the Year Award.
