It is no secret that Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are very good friends. Ever since the South African was snapped up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL Auction, he has certainly not looked back. A couple of seasons back, it was the sheer force of the AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli combination that ensured that RCB did indeed reach the final of the Indian Premier League. While they didn’t win, the bond has gotten stronger.
Recently, de Villiers shocked the world with his retirement from all forms of international cricket. While he certainly will be missed in the grand scheme of things for the Proteas, he will be available for the Royal Challengers the following edition of the IPL.
The duo has been part of a few memorable matches together, not just in the context of the IPL, but for their respective countries as well. Following de Villiers’ shock announcement, Kohli went ahead and wished him well while going ahead and wishing his family as well.
Just a few days earlier, Kohli had witnessed AB take a fantastic catch on the boundary rope and had described the 34-year old South African batsman as ‘Superman’. The former Proteas skipper remains one of the most revered cricketers in the history of the sport and has certainly brought in a whole new dimension towards batting in the shortest format of the game.
Virat Kohli speaks out
The Indian skipper’s Tweet read: ‘Wish you all the best in everything that you do my brother. You’ve changed the way batting was seen in the time you’ve played international cricket. My best wishes to you and your family for this amazing journey ahead.’
