A run chase and Virat Kohli make for a riveting combination to watch. The West Indies had piled up a humungous total of 207 runs on the board off their allotted 20 overs , and right from the time India started the run chase, they needed to go at a rate of over 10 runs an over. The Indian skipper came in at the fall of Rohit Sharma’s wicket, with the scorecard reading 30/1.

The master batsman scored his first boundary off the second ball of the 7th over. Hayden Walsh tossed the ball up, Kohli struck the ball hard and it raced past the bowler into the boundary. His second boundary was the shot of a master. Khary Pierre gave the ball loop and delivered it just outside off stump, Kohli got onto the front foot, split the gap between deep cover and long off, and the ball raced to the boundary.

Virat Kohli got to his half century with a shot even the bowler would have secretly admired. Jason Holder delivered the ball on off stump, he transferred his weight onto the front foot and deposited the ball over cover for six. Kohli had shifted gears seamlessly and was pressing on the accelerator. The Indian skipper was fired up, and a pumped up Kohli, is indeed a dangerous one.

Off the third ball of the 16th over, the master got his supple wrists into play. Kesrick Williams bowled a length ball on middle stump, and Kohli flicked him with ease into the crowd. He then brought out the trademark ‘Notebook” celebration, and gave Williams a taste of his own medicine.

Kohli was single-handedly guiding India towards the finish line. A flick off Kieron Pollard that sailed into the crowd past mid wicket brought the equation down to 18 off 16 balls. The master finished the chase with a cover drive that sailed into the crowd. It was an innings of authority; an innings that showed the world that Kohli was still the unrivalled emperor as far as a run chase is concerned in limited-overs cricket.
