Indian skipper Virat Kohli in the post match interview clearly stated that he had to be harsh on his players after their unexpected loss to Sri Lanka, which worked wonders for his side and was evident in the field in the high-octane fixture against Sri Lanka.

Even after putting a total of 321 on the board, India faced defeat at the hands of the Sri Lankan side as bowlers leaked way too many runs and fielders didn’t support their bowlers due to some sloppy fielding. As a result, Indians suffered a minor hiccup for their progression into the semi-finals but came back with a bang with their victory over South Africa,

Virat Kohli admitted that he had to put forward some stern words in front of his player to motivate them for the virtual quarter-final fixture against South Africa. India ended up winning the match handsomely to book their berth in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Kohli doesn’t want to nag his players much

“You have to be honest. You have to sometimes say things that hurt. That’s what I believe in. You have to lay it out in front of everyone what we did wrong, including me, and we need to take it on the chin and accept it and prove it. That’s why we are chosen among millions of people to play at this level. You have to be good enough to do that for the country and you have to be good enough to bounce back as well” claimed Virat Kohli after the match

However, he stressed on the fact one shouldn’t be nagging his men as they are professionals. “You have to point out things that didn’t go well, but at the same time, you don’t want to be nagging them too much because they are professional cricketers. You have to understand how to speak to them and how to communicate and discuss things with them” added Kohli. The next task for Kohli and his men would be to overhaul Bangladesh to reach the finals and successfully defend their Champions Trophy title.
