Indian captain Virat Kohli is one man who never stays away from the limelight, even if he is not scoring runs. From controversies to goodwill gestures, the skipper is always in the headlines. However, unlike in Perth where he was in the news for the wrong reasons despite scoring a ton, Kohli won hearts with a positive gesture in Sydney during the fourth and final Test match. And among those who were overwhelmed by his gesture is former Australian great Glenn McGrath.
On the first day of the Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Kohli walked out to bat wearing pink-bordered gloves and carrying a bat with a pink grip. The first Test of the year in Sydney is called the Pink Test with the third day of the game named Jane McGrath Day in honour of Mcgrath’s late wife who died of cancer in 2008. The venue had turned into a sea of pink in Jane’s remembrance on Saturday, leaving the former pace bowler deeply touched.
However, it was Kohli’s efforts for raising awareness that impressed McGrath and the Indian captain was appreciated by Glenn McGrath Foundation for his gesture. It was liked by 1.2k people.

Kohli told McGrath he had something special for Sydney
“One night Virat Kohli came up to me and he said that he had something special for Sydney. I have got my pink ready, it is all pinked up for Sydney,” India Today quoted the former cricketer as saying. “And then when he walked out to bat and to see the pink on his glove and his pads and his pink bat with the grip, logo all in pink… It was a very special moment.”
Kohli though did not stay long in the middle and fell for 23 on Day 1 of the Test and given the way the match has progressed, there is little chance of him playing another knock of substance. However, as a captain, Kohli is relishing each moment of the game at the SCG as India inch closer to their maiden Test series win Down Under.
