India and England are all set to lock horns against each other in a grueling five-match Test series that begins on 4th August 2021 at Nottingham. This is a series that will be extremely important for both sides as this will be the first assignment for both sides in the second cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC).

And, senior spinner and bowling legend Ravichandran Ashwin was omitted from the Indian playing XI for the first Test against Joe Root and his men. India has picked just a lone spinner, and Ravindra Jadeja made the cut ahead of Ashwin.

Apart from Jadeja, the other four fast bowlers that the Indian side has picked are Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.

And, from former cricketers to fans, several people have expressed their thoughts on the omission of Ravichandran Ashwin from the Indian playing XI. Both Wasim Jaffer and Michael Vaughan wondered why Ashwin was not selected in the Indian playing XI.

While a fan tweeted that Virat Kohli has dug his own grave by not picking Ashwin, another fan reckons that Ashwin is not picked in the Indian side because Ben Stokes is not playing for England.

Another fan even went to the extent of stating that the Indian side should lose the first Test and Ashwin should be picked for the second rubber. Another fan tweeted that he wants Ashwin to score runs than Ajinkya Rahane in the Test series. Another fan reckons that Virat Kohli’s team selection is pathetic. All in all, several people are not happy with the omission of Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ravichandran Ashwin is a legend of Indian cricket, especially in the Test format of the game. The Indian bowling colossus has taken 413 wickets for the Indian side in the whites and has taken his wickets at an excellent average of 24.56.

He is also the 4th highest wicket-taker for India in Test match cricket. The Tamil Nadu spinner has also scalped 30 five-wicket hauls in his illustrious career.
