Virat reminds me of Ricky Ponting: Geoffrey Boycott

Ace Indian batsman Virat Kohli has been receiving admiration from all fronts. Former England batting legend Geoffrey Boycott is a new addition to the list. Recently, Boycott was in all praise for the Indian Test skipper. He went on to draw comparisons between Kohli and former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting. He quoted that Kohli reminded him of the Aussie skipper in all departments.

Virat Kohli scored a brilliant 167 in the first innings of the 2nd Test at Vizag. Geoffrey Boycott looked mighty impressed with the young Indian leader. He then quoted that Kohli reminded him of Ricky Ponting in both the aspects of his game – batting and fielding. He also praised his knock at Vizag and was in awe for the knock by the Indian captain.

Kohli has surely turned into a modern-day legend of the game. His century at Vizag has only emphasised his authority on the game a little more. Interesting, it was Geoffrey Boycott, who had given his word of advice when Kohli was handed the full-time captaincy back in 2015. Back then, Boycott had quoted that Kohli should learn the art of harnessing his anger and aggression. He should learn how to convert those anger moments to passion.

“So Kohli will be compared to Dhoni, and Kohli has to in my opinion, an advice for him, in each passion and emotion he has, but he has to try not to let that passion and emotion boil over. He has got to harness it. He has got a racing heart. Very important to harness it and I wish him well,” he had quoted last year.

Drawing praise from the same legendary batsman this year is surely a moment of pride for the Indian Test captain. This is not the first time a legend has hailed Kohli and admitted to be a fan of his gameplay. Many times, the West Indies legendary batsman Sir Viv Richards has quoted that he feels that Virat Kohli reminds him of his own playing style.
