The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is just a couple of months away and all the participating teams must be gearing up to make a mark. The global event will get underway on October 17 while the final is set to take place on November 14. With the tournament taking place in the spin-friendly conditions of UAE and Oman, many are backing Team India to get the glory for the second time.
However, Team India’s first challenge would be identifying their best combination. With several potent options available, some brainstorming will definitely be required to finalize the playing XI. While the team management would take the final decision, many fans and experts have presented their opinions on how India’s best line-up should look like. Former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra are the latest to join the bandwagon.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag and Nehra jointly picked a potent Team India playing XI for the showpiece event. The top three spots were occupied by skipper Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul. Notably, Kohli and Rohit opened for India during the T20I series against England earlier this year. The duo tasted reasonable success and Kohli also suggested naming the same opening combination for the T20 World Cup.
Suryakumar Yadav ahead of Shreyas Iyer in Sehwag, Nehra’s Playing XI
Keeping this in mind, Sehwag and Nehra put KL Rahul at number three. The number four spot was given to Rishabh Pant who’s also the wicket-keeper of the side. The southpaw has been on a roll lately and the two former Indian cricketers have backed him to shine in UAE. Suryakumar Yadav is next in the order and not many can raise their eyebrows.
Yadav has impressed one and all in his short international career. Hence, the selectors are likely to prefer him ahead of Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan. Coming to the all-rounders, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar found a place in the playing XI. Pandya hasn’t been at his best lately but his match-winning abilities require no mentioning.
While Jadeja can contribute in all departments, Sundar’s presence would give depth to the bowling line-up. Not to forget, the off-spinner can also bowl economically in the death overs. Yuzvendra Chahal was the other spinner in the team while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were named the pacers. All these bowlers are proven T20 stars and would be raring to shine in the T20 World Cup.
