Virender Sehwag bats for waving-off of taxes for Olympic prize money

Former Indian cricket Virender Sehwag has taken his portion of the Twitterati by storm once again. Of his very esteemed Twitterati, some have retweeted the one thing that he had asked of his fans. Moreover, the fact has batted for the Olympians for the better part of the ongoing Olympics in Rio. Although the Indian contingent has not performed as well as expected, it is clear that the nation is behind them irrespective of the results and the outcome of the same.

However, while the likes of Dipa Karmakar and Abhinav Bindra have reached finals in their time, the Indians have taken it a step further by securing two medals in wrestling and badminton. While Sakshi Malik picked up a bronze by her repage in wrestling, PV Sindhu stunned one and all by picking up a silver medal. After having put up a brave fight against Carolina Marin in the final, it was clear that she had put up a good fight and done the country proud.

Earlier, Virender Sehwag had somewhat of a weird request for the Government of India after Dipa Karmakar’s and Sakshi Malik’s heroics. In a note to the Prime Minister and the transportation minister, Sehwag had requested a train and a flight to be named after them. Whether that will be carried out remains to be seen, but, for all those Olympians, Sehwag has opened up somewhat of a petition.

Sehwag’s tweet read: “RT if you agree that the Tax that is deducted from prize money given to our athletes by the government should be waived off (who won us glory).” Earlier, even Michael Phelps had been handed a massive and hefty bill that would eventually see him pay in excess of almost a million dollars for the prize money he had won at Rio.
