Former Indian batsman has come out all guns blazing, but not on the cricket field this time around. The nawab of Najafgarh, Virender Sehwag, is rarely known to be speaking in the media. His exploits have primarily been seen on the cricket field. But after seeing violent activities taking place in Haryana in last few days, the former opening batsman is seen concerned.

Sehwag took to social media platform Twitter to express his sadness about the ongoing incidents in the northern state of Haryana. He is a native the state and has appealed to the people to calm down and stop the protests as the scenes are getting terrifying now. Despite the Chief Minister M Khattar requesting the same, the protests have not ceased yet.

Sehwag in his tweet quoted, “It is my humble request to all my brothers to leave the path of violence and whatsoever the demands are, must be demanded in a constitutional way and well within the law. We are protectors and not agitators.”

He further added to his previous tweet mentioning about how the people of the state must use their power and energy. “The Nation’s army, the sportspersons and an endless number of people have made the nation proud; our energy and zeal must be utilised to benefit the nation.”

Refusing to call off the quota agitation, several Jat leaders demanded the Haryana government to promulgate an ordinance to include the community in the OBC category if it wanted peace and normalcy in the state. The response came after CM Khattar released a statement saying that his government has “accepted” their demands, but did not elaborate. The protestors were least impressed and this has already seen over 150 people left injured, 700 trains cancelled and loss of life and property.

The situation in Haryana continues to remain tense with escalated violence in several areas claiming ten lives so far and the state government deploying more forces with the help of Centre to bring back normalcy after the agitating Jat leaders rejected Chief Minister ML Khattar’s appeal for peace.
