Virender Sehwag disappointed with India's defeat; hopes for a strong comeback
The third Test will commence on August 18 which will be a do or die game for the visitors.
Team India has been literally thumped at Lord’s by England by an innings and 159 runs. They have not only gone down 0-2 in the series, but their mentality to compete in these conditions is also being questioned. Many have already predicted a whitewash like 2011 tour. Even former cricketer Virender Sehwag has labelled the defeat at very poor and is hoping that the visitors come back strong at Trent Bridge.
England declared with a massive lead of 289 runs in the first innings and with rain around, one would’ve hoped for the Indian batsmen to fight hard to save the match. But what followed was an abject surrender in seaming conditions with none of the top order batsman being able to stay in the middle. Only Cheteshwar Pujara showed some grit to fight it out and a back injury to Virat Kohli didn’t help the team’s cause either.
They were eventually bowled out for yet another meek total of 130 runs only in 47 overs. The trio of James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes were all over the opposition and Sam Curran was also threatening every now and then. India are still alive in the series, but with the way their batsmen are playing, it is hard to throw a statement of them making a miraculous comeback.
Hope they have the confidence
Virender Sehwag, who was the member of 2011 debacle, was very disappointed with his team and wanted them to put up a much better show at Lord’s. But what transpired was absolutely unacceptable. While he criticised the attitude of not fighting till the very end, Sehwag was hopeful of a strong comeback from the team.
“Very poor from India. While we all want to stand by our team and support them when they don’t do well, going down without a fight is very disappointing to watch. Hope they have the confidence and mental strength to come back from this,” he wrote in his tweet.
The third Test of the series will commence on August 18 now and will be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
