Virender Sehwag feels Jasprit Bumrah is the biggest gain of the year for Team India
Bumrah has left many overwhelmed with his exceptional performance with the red cherry.
Jasprit Bumrah gave Australia a crucial punch on the third day of the Boxing Day game in Melbourne by picking up six wickets for 33 runs and helping India take a lead of 292 runs that could be decisive in the end. India bowled out the hosts for 151 runs, in reply to their first innings total of 443, inside 67 overs and came out to bat again to add to their mammoth lead. The visitors, however, faced a mini slide in the second innings with Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli getting back into the pavilion for no score.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag was all praise for India and Bumrah in particular who made his Test debut earlier in 2018 and has already picked up three five-wicket hauls, all on foreign soil. Bumrah’s latest feat also made him go past Ajit Agarkar’s match-winning 6 for 41 registered in Adelaide in 2003-04 series of which Sehwag was a part.
In fact, Sehwag himself has sweet memories at the MCG as he had belted 195 at this venue although India had lost on that occasion.
In his tweet, Sehwag called Bumrah the year’s “biggest gain” and prayed that the weather gods remained kind and allow India to script a win in the Test which they are dominating at the moment. There are predictions of rain intervening at the MCG during the Test in the last two days.
Australia’s infamous collapse
Australia resumed from their overnight score of 8/0 on Day three and lost their first wicket on 24. Bumrah got into the act then and affected the collapse to reduce them to 89/4 and then 92/5 just after lunch. As many as four Australian batsmen touched 20 but none could go on to score big. Captain Tim Paine and opener Marcus Harris were the joint highest scorers with 22 runs to their name. Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets while Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami accounted for a scalp each.
