The sandpaper gate has become one of the most talked about issues in world cricket. Cameron Bancroft was seen using an alien object to alter the condition of the ball in the third Test against South Africa in Newlands. Bancroft and skipper Steve Smith admitted the offence and claimed that the leadership group knew about the plans.
On Day 3 of the Test match, Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera who was trying to scrape the ball to change its condition. Coach Darren Lehman was caught on the screen providing instructions to Peter Handscomb who then when on the field to inform Bancroft that he has been caught on camera. Interestingly, the Australian opening batsman was again caught on camera when he was trying to hide the object in his pants. The incident did not go well with cricketing experts who criticized the Australians for using such tactics.

This incident has raised speculations as to whether the Australians have used the object in previous games as well. Footages from the first match where Mitchell Starc extracted good reverse swing is also being verified to ensure that no foul play had occurred. Such incidents dampen the credibility of the game and the ICC and Cricket Australia must take strict measures against the accused to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.
