Virender Sehwag has a suggestion for Indian skipper Virat Kohli

India thrashed South Africa in the 6-match ODI series as they won the last game after yet another ton from skipper Kohli, eventually clinching the series 5-1. India’s top order was in full flow as Kohli along with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma remained top scorer in the ODI series.

However, the middle-order of the side remained shaky and one would say unchallenged throughout the series. Wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni’s performance has been under the critic’s radar after the right-hander has failed to get going in the last overs of the game. His slow innings have attracted a lot of questions as to what could be the perfect spot for the former captain.

With the ODI series won, the caravan moves to the shortest format of the game which requires run at even quicker rate. Former India opener Virender Sehwag is of the view that India should find out a new finisher and Dhoni should bat in higher order than his regular positions.

According to Sehwag, South Africa will be roaring to get back in the T20 series after crunching defeat in the ODI and suggested that If India manages to work out their middle-order woes, they can again win the series against the Protea side.

Find new finisher and send Dhoni at number 4

Sehwag was speaking to India TV ahead of the first T20I encounter where he said, “I believe, there’s still a scope of improvement in India’s middle-order batting line-up. MS Dhoni should play up the order.” He also said that Indian skipper Kohli worries that If India loses Dhoni’s wicket early, there won’t be anyone in the team who can play the role of finisher.

However, Sehwag said that India should instead try to find out a new finisher. I think Kohli fears that if Dhoni comes at No 4 and loses his wicket early then there won’t be anyone on the finishing spot. But Kohli should send him up the order and hand the finisher’s role to Manish Pandey or Hardik Pandya or Kedar Jadhav,” Sehwag told India TV.

It will be interesting to see If the Indian think tank along with skipper Kohli and Dhoni himself listen to Sehwag or they have something else in their minds for the T20 series.
