Former Indian explosive opening batsman Virender Sehwag has been in the limelights even after his retirement. He used to thrash the opposition bowlers during his playing days and after hanging up his boots is equally volcanic with his words. These days, he is known for his witty tweets which he uses to troll the world every now and then.

His Hindi commentary is also becoming increasingly popular for the way he describes the game using his sense of humour. We will now see him in an altogether a new role. He will be seen playing the role of an anchor in a TV sports programme named “Umeed Olympic”. A Mumbai-based entertainment company has roped him in for his latest endeavor that would be a 13-part series. The show will feature the journey of the top athletes in the country preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

It is expected to air in 2020 on the Epic Channel wherein the fans would get to witness the lifestyles of the top athletes in the nation. Sehwag will be seen travelling to the training bases and will interview the families and the coaching staffs of the athletes.

Former international judo player and coach Yashpal Solanki reckoned the show will create awareness in the country about the grand Olympics event, “Normally, the buzz is once in four years and that too just weeks before the big event. But the new programme will give an in-depth analysis of the entire journey of the athletes”, he said.

It is a great initiative to bring a famous sportsman like Sehwag to promote the biggest sporting event of the world in India. Sehwag’s team has already begun travelling for the shoot and will interact with respective National Sports Federations and government agencies to get details about the training plans for the athletes.
