Virender Sehwag picks his best XI of IPL 2020; names Virat Kohli as captain

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag named his best XI of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). To start with, he named KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal as the openers. Rahul got the Orange Cap, scoring 670 runs, though his team, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), couldn’t qualify for the playoffs. Padikkal, on the other hand, got the Emerging Player of the Tournament award.

The southpaw scored a fifty in his very first IPL game and from there on, he didn’t look back. At number three, Sehwag picked Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Suryakumar Yadav, who impressed one and all with his flamboyant display of stroke-making. He is also being deemed unlucky after he missed out on a place in the Indian team for the ODI and T20I series against Australia.

Sehwag put forth his opinions while speaking on Cricbuzz Live. As his skipper, the Nawab of Najafgarh was confused between Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) David Warner and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Virat Kohli. But in the end, he picked the 32-year-old Virat. At number six, Sehwag went for AB de Villiers, who was arguably RCB’s standout batsman.

In the fast bowling department, Sehwag picked the trio of Kagiso Rabada, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Among them, Rabada got the Purple Cap, picking up 29 wickets in the tournament. Bumrah was second on the list with 27 wickets. Shami was a star performer for KXIP as well. Sehwag picked RCB’s Yuzvendra Chahal and SRH’s Rashid Khan as the specialist spinners.

Even as Rashid picked up 20 wickets, Chahal ended his campaign with 21 wickets to show for his efforts. As his 13th and 12th man, Sehwag picked Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Jofra Archer and Mumbai’s Ishan Kishan. Archer got the MVP award despite his team ending at the bottom of the points table. Kishan, on the other hand, played some marvellous knocks with a top score of 99 against RCB in Dubai.
