The Ravi Ashwin and Eoin Morgan spat has caught the attention of the cricketing fraternity. The incident occurred during the match between DC and KKR wherein the former cricketers and the experts as well put forward their opinions. In regard to this latest happening, the former India cricketer Virender Sehwag recounted an instance from the past.

Sehwag was a part of the then Kings XI Punjab in the IPL in the year 2014. In a match against CSK, Ashwin who was playing for CSK picked up the wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Soon after scalping his wicket, the off-spinner picked up some dust and blew it as a part of his celebration. This did not go quite well with the CSK captain MS Dhoni. Sehwag was at the nonstriker end and too did not like the incident, He thus revealed that the skipper scolded Ashwin for his act.

It’s the players’ responsibility: Virender Sehwag

“When I was playing for Punjab, (Ravichandran) Ashwin dismissed (Glenn) Maxwell and then he picked up some dust and blew at him. I didn’t like that. But I never came out and spoke publicly about whether what he did was wrong or against the ‘Spirit of the game’, though MS Dhoni got angry and even scolded him.

It was Ashwin’s wish to do that. And if any player spoke about the incident after the match to the media, or on social media, then that also would have become a big thing. It’s the players’ responsibility whatever happens on the field should not be allowed to come out,” Sehwag asserted while speaking to Cricbuzz.

About the Ashwin-Morgan incident, whilst batting for DC, the off-spinner grabbed an extra run after a throw from KKR’s fielders had hit Rishabh Pant’s arm. The KKR captain seemed to have not liked this and felt that it was against the spirit of the game. Later, when Ashwin got out on the next ball, Morgan, and bowler Tim Southee got involved in a heated argument with the ace spinner.

After the matter came into the highlight, Ashwin came forward with a series of Tweets and put his views on the same. In one of his Tweets he wrote that he did not know that the ball had hit Pant’s arm but if he would have known, he would have still gone for the run as it is within the frame of rules.
