Virender Sehwag roots for Yuvraj and Raina's comeback in the Indian team

Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag has come out in favour of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina yet again. The Nawab Of Najafgarh as he’s popularly known reckoned that their return would boost the Indian team. The southpaw duo has been ignored for the second consecutive series as they were not picked for the first three ODIs against Australian.

They had been certainties in the Indian squad for a considerable period before loss of form and fitness led to their omissions. At present, the team has plenty of options available. While Raina hasn’t played an ODI game for two years, he has hardly done enough in the domestic circuit to prove his credentials. Indeed, he wasn’t even included in the BCCI contracted player’s list this year.

Benefit for Team India

Leading India Blue in the Duleep Trophy, Raina needs to be extraordinary if he is to give any kind of statement to the selectors.

“If Raina and Yuvraj make a comeback, then it can benefit team India. Both of them have age by their side, they are fit players. If not 16, Yuvraj is touching 15 mark in yo-yo test and is fitter than me, so he can make a comeback in the team,” he told India TV.

Yuvi, on the other hand, made a comeback at the start of the year. While he looked promising on return, his form faded away before the Indian team was forced to look at other options. His fitness has also raised questions in recent times. Even former selector Sandeep Patil remarked that he needed to focus on fitness to remain in contention for the 2019 World Cup.

The Indian team has a long season approaching as they’re scheduled to play against New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa in the upcoming months. Hence, both the cricketers would be looking forward to delivering their potential best in the upcoming domestic season if they’re to garner any attention from the selectors. Only time would say, what the future has in store for both of them.
