Virender Sehwag’s wise Diwali tweet in his own style receives widespread appreciation
Let's hope the wits of the Nawab of Najafgarh never fade away and he continues to entertain us off the field just like he did while on it.
Arguably the biggest festival of the year in India, the festival of lights – Diwali – is finally here in all its glory, bringing with itself love, joy, prosperity and happiness. As people across the country begin their celebrations, former Indian cricketer, the flamboyant ‘Sultan of Multan’, Virender Sehwag, conveyed a wise message to all those celebrating Diwali through one of his tweets.
Post his retirement from cricket, Sehwag, today, has become one of the most loved people on Twitter and enjoys a huge fan base, full credit to his quirky tweets.
The legendary former cricketer’s tweet read, “Deepawali ki khareed daari unse kijiye jo aapki vajah se Deepawali mana paayein !,” roughly translating to, “Purchase items for Diwali from those who can celebrate their Diwali because of you”.
Here is the tweet
The former attacking opener, in his playing days, was seen as one of the most dangerous batsmen around the world, thanks to his bat, that apparently didn’t feel good if the ball didn’t smash into it every minute at least once. Known for his calmness to go for fours and sixes even in the rather nervous 90s, 190s and 290s, without flinching a bit, the 40-year-old is the first player to score an ODI double-hundred as a captain. He had scored 219 against Windies a few years ago.
Sehwag, in his illustrious career at the international level, has amassed over 8,000 runs in Tests and ODIs each at an average of 49.34 and 35.06 respectively. Adding to this, in his short T20I career, the brute has scored a shade less than 400 runs at an impressive strike-rate of 145.39.
Here’s how his doting fans responded to his wise Diwali tweet
On Indian skipper, Virat Kohli’s 30th birthday, Sehwag wished him with a very unusual but funny tweet. His tweet read, “On this Dhanteras, wish you a year that is again filled with Runteras. #HappyBirthdayVirat.”
Let’s hope the wits of the Nawab of Najafgarh never fade away and he continues to entertain us off the field just like he did while on it.
