Virender Sehwag thinks the 4th Test is a 'do or die clash' for Team India

From being counted out and bashed for their attitude along with several other things, Virat Kohli and his Indian team are now expected to break an 80-year-old record in Test cricket. Last time a team won a Test series after being 2-0 down, it was Australia and the captain was Sir Don Bradman. Team India was 2-0 down heading into Trent Bridge at the end of the match, they hadn’t just registered their first points on the scoreline but done that comprehensively. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is one of those who believes the team should be focusing on the task ahead of them.

After three matches, England still have a 2-1 lead and a win here will end the series. Thus Sehwag calls the fourth Test at Southampton a ‘do or die’ match the No.1 team. He is optimistic and certainly gives them a chance provided they continue to play the way they did at Trent Bridge.

“India will have to win the 4th Test if they want to clinch the series. It will be a do or die clash for them. If they fail to win, hopes of winning the series will surely end and at the most they can draw the series,” Sehwag said while talking on IndiaTV.

Nothing is impossible

“Nothing is impossible, if India play the same way like they did at Trent Bridge with their batting and bowling, they can make an impact, but it would be very difficult, not impossible. India would have to play some very good cricket because like the way India made a comeback after two losses, England will do the same,” he added.

Skipper Virat Kohli who has been flirting with the No.1 ranking among batsmen once again regained it having scored 200 runs in the third Test. He rose to the top after his knocks of 149 and 51 at Edgbaston but two ordinary performances at Lord’s and Steve Smith was back to take over the spot. Kohli scored exactly 200 runs in the previous Test and thus eclipsed the Aussie in terms of his rating points.

“It’s a huge achievement for Virat, but I don’t think rankings would make a difference for him, because I think that his goal would be bigger, something like reaching Tendulkar‘s 100 centuries and leading India to victories,” said the former Indian opener.
