Virender Sehwag wishes Team India good luck for semi-finals, takes a dig at Bangladesh
India will meet Bangladesh on Thursday for the second semi-final.
Team India started their title defence in style as they beat arch-rivals Pakistan by 124 runs in their opening game. However, they lost to Sri Lanka in their second game which meant the third match against South Africa became a virtual quarter-final and a must-win. India cruised off to the semi-finals after beating the Proteas by eight wickets. They outplayed them in all the departments to rightly deserve a spot in the top 4.
Virat Kohli once again proved why he is a brilliant chaser. Although he started calmly, he later played a great brand of cricket, hitting boundaries and running hard between the wickets. He made an unbeaten 76 off 101 deliveries. Others who played around the captain were Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh – both of whom have always performed well in ICC tournaments. India will take on Bangladesh in the semi-final on June 15th at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
On the occasion of India’s victory, former India opener turned commentator Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to congratulate the team “What a great victory for India. Solid performance. Good luck for the semi-finals and finals,” he tweeted. What stands out in his tweet is that he wished India good luck for the finals even though the semi-final is yet to be played, which was an indirect dig at Bangladesh. Seems like Sehwag is confident India will beat its neighbours in the all-important game.
Asian rivalry in semifinal
Although India’s bowling and fielding became a concern after a lacklustre performance against Sri Lanka, all the mistakes were avoided against South Africa. The bowlers were economical and top class fielding helped them. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah shared 4 wickets and the latter received the Man of the Match award. Indian team will meet Bangladesh on Thursday for the second semi-final and will look to continue their form from the previous game.
