Vishakhapatnam joint home venue for Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants
All the speculations surrounding the alternative home venues for Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants were put to rest after the Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman announced Vishakhapatnam, the Andhra Pradesh port city, as the joint venue for Mumbai and Pune franchises. The decision was made in the governing council meeting today.
“Visakhapatnam will be the joint venue for Mumbai & Pune IPL teams,” Rajeev Shukla said after IPL Governing Council meeting.
After the Bombay High Court ruling that matches would have to be shifted out of Maharashtra in view of the severe drought situation in the state, the BCCI, and the franchises were left facing a huge logistical exercise in terms of finding alternate venues. The Mumbai Cricket Association and MCA were the affected venues.
While Kings XI Punjab pulled out of Nagpur and Rising Pune Supergiants settled for Visakhapatnam. Mumbai Indians were earlier close to zeroing in on Jaipur. However, it could not be possible after the Rajasthan High Court intervened. It was a state of confusion as the MI team was not aware of their venue for the last three home matches.
Mumbai Indians currently acquire the third spot in the tournament after their narrow win over Kolkata Knight Rider last night. Rising Pune Supergiants are currently struggling to find their hold in the tournament with only two wins in the six games.
While MI would want to win all their upcoming home games in order to safe their bets of reaching the playoffs, the RPS side will have to really put an inspiring show if they dream of reaching the knockout stages.
