Vivian Richards names his four favourites to lift the World Cup 2019
Talking about a potential shift in career to Politics, the 66-year-old suggested that's a field which will be tough for him.
Windies legend Sir Vivian Richards was a part of the Windies team that lifted the first two World Cups and also featured in the 1983 edition where his team lost narrowly to India in the finals. After 1983, the Caribbean side has not once managed to reach the final of the tournament, much to the disappointment of their passionate fans and former players.
With the next World Cup just a few months away from commencement, all the other teams are narrowing down their squads and are trying to get the permutations and combinations right. The former Windies captain though reckons there are 4-5 teams that have the potential to win the trophy at the end of the competition in England.
“England has played well. But always they have fallen short at the last moment. It is a good team always. Pakistan and India are two teams that can defeat anyone. Australia is another great team. So, I think there are 4-5 teams that have the potential to win 2019 World Cup,” Richards was quoted as saying on a TOI report.
He also added that fortune sometimes can play a pretty bad role and the players have to be fully committed in every game. “In limited over game, it all depends on how you play on that particular day. If it is a bad day, even a bad team can defeat you. I hope to see the team where it belonged,” Richards added.
Politics is not my cup of tea
Talking about a potential shift in career to Politics, the 66-year-old suggested that’s a field which will be tough for him. One of his oldest and fiercest rivals Imran Khan managed to become the first cricketer to be a Prime Minister and Richards said he envies the former Pakistani captain for what he’s doing for the public.
“It will be tough for me. Because whenever you do well, you are in honeymoon period. But once it is gone, back to square one again. It (politics) is a ticklish subject. It is always hard to please people as they expect more. In that case, I envy Imran for reaching that position,” he said.
