Voges’ record Ton counters Bishoo’s 6-fer – West Indies v Australia Day 2 Report: Australians tightened their grip over the test match as they now enjoy a huge lead over West Indies in the Ist innings, thanks to a brilliant century on debut from Adam Voges and his stand for the last wicket with Josh Hazlewood after a brilliant piece of bowling from Devendra Bishoo who recorded a 6-fer. By stumps on day 2, West Indies had already lost two of their wickets in 2nd innings with still trailing by 145 runs.

2nd Day’s play began with Steven Smith getting stumped by Bishoo early on as he tried to come down the ground to play a big shot. Couple of overs later, Watson who tried to play shots straightaway holed one out of Bishoo for 11. Brad Haddin was deceived by the leggie on a ball which turned from leg stump to hit the off stump. The ball resembled, Warne’s deceiving of Mike Gatting with the magical ball, which was exactly 22 years ago on Thursday. On other hand, Voges brought up his fifty calmly in 113 balls.

Johnson tried to survive along with Voges with a 52 run stand for the 7th wicket. But Johnson’s 20 runs knock came to an end after Lunch when he miscued a sweep shot off Bishoo. In the same over, he picked up his 6th wicket by cleaning up Starc for a duck as Australians faltered for 178 for 8.

Voges got a decent support form Nathan Lyon as they kept the pushing the lead northwards. Lyon was trapped for 20 by Gabriel putting a break to 43 run partnership for 9th wicket. But West Indies had to work out to get the final wicket as Voges and Hazlewood never looked like giving up. After entering into the 80s, Voges started to play shots and soon he became the 99th player to hit a century on Test Debut. He completed his century in 187 balls and stood out as the oldest Test player to score a century on Test debut.

The final wicket stand resisted for over an hour in the final session before Hazlewood got bowled by Samuels for 39 putting concluding the 97 runs stand for the final wicket which lasted over 170 deliveries.

Australians made an early strike after getting a lead of 170 runs as Shai Hope edged one off Mitchell Johnson’s bowling into the slips. Later a beautiful swinging delivery broke down the off stump of Braithwaite as they were 2 down for 21. Darren Bravo and Dowrich ensured they don’t lose any more wickets in the remaining 6 overs.

Brief Scorecard:

West Indies: Ist Innings- 25 for 2 in 11 overs (KC Braithwaite 15; MA Starc 1/6) and

IInd Innings- 148 all out in 53.5 overs (SD Hope 36; JR Hazlewood 3/33) trail by 145 runs
