The cricketing world was shocked to see the Australian captain Steve Smith break down in the press conference in Sydney on Thursday. He confronted the media for the first time after being banned and was absolutely devastated. He apologised to the whole nation for his actions in Cape Town Test on the third day and took full responsibility of the ball-tampering incident. However, much like the other cricketers, VVS Laxman has come out in support for him and has an inspiring message for the suspended trio.

While Smith and David Warner were banned for the period of 12 months, Cameron Bancroft was sentenced 9 months ban. Even the latter was left regretting his actions while in rainbow nation and felt that he will have to stay with it for the rest of his life. Warner, however, prioritised his family first and apologised to the cricket fans with a message on social media also informing that he will face the reporters in a couple of days time. Meanwhile, Darren Lehmann also stepped down as the coach of the Australian cricket team.

My best wishes are with them

VVS Laxman took to Twitter to express himself on Thursday and even he was shocked to see Steve Smith’s press conference which was highly emotional. He also shared a thought of Bhagwan Mahavir and believed that only one mistake shouldn’t define the character of any person. The former Indian cricketer, who is also the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, hoped that all the three cricketers come back strong and score tons of runs in their respective careers.

“Pictures of Steve Smith breaking down are awful for any cricket fan to see. Today is Mahavir Jayanti and Bhagwan Mahavir said, “Anger begets more anger, and forgiveness and love lead to more forgiveness and love.” A bad mistake would not define the character of a man. I wish God gives all the three players and their families the courage and strength to go through this. Let’s give them the space they deserve at this time. I am looking forward to them coming back and doing what they do best, scoring tonnes of runs and entertain us all. My best wishes,” he tweeted.

While many believe the Cricket Australia have been too harsh on them, it is unlikely that the ban on them will reduce anytime soon.
