The 2021 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in India, is around the corner and all the international teams have already started their preparations for the elite tournament. Teams have been trying to work out all the possible playing XI combinations by conducting bilateral T20I series with other cricket teams across the globe.
The Number 1 and Number 2 ranked teams in the T20I team rankings by the International Cricket Council (ICC), England and India respectively are no behind as the just-concluded five-match T20I series between the two cricketing superpowers acted as a stepping stone to their preparation for the T20 World Cup later this year,
Building the team for the upcoming ICC event will not be easy for the Men in Blue as in the recent past many players have risen through the ranks and have grabbed any opportunity that came their way with both hands. Thus, while selecting the squad, India will face a great dilemma regarding whom to pick and whom to leave.
India’s veteran batsman VVS Laxman was recently asked to pick two new names who he believes should form a part of India’s World Cup squad. To this VVS picked two swashbuckling batsmen namely Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. Laxman seemed highly impressed with the Mumbai Indians’ lads and believes they definitely deserve a chance to feature in the World Cup squad of 15 members.
One noteworthy point here is that both Ishan and Surya had made their debuts for India during the second T20I against England. Opening the innings in his debut game, Ishan had dazzled with the willow by smashing a 32-ball 56. Surya, on the other hand, didn’t get a chance to showcase his talent in that very game and was dropped from the next T20I.

However, he made the most out of the opportunity provided to him in the fourth T20I by hammering a 31-ball 56. This was followed by the Mumbai-star playing a quick-fire cameo of 37 runs off just 17 deliveries in the fifth T20I. Speaking about the headline-makers, VVS Laxman stated, “Well, it’s a very tough question because what we have seen in this series is that lot of youngsters have capitalized on their opportunities.
But the way Ishan Kishan played in his debut innings and then also the way Suryakumar Yadav played, I think both of them will definitely be in my squad of 15. It’s a tough choice, but I think both of them deserve to play in the Indian squad come to the World Cup,” Laxman said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.
