In the Karnataka Premier League, 29-year-old Krishnappa Gowtham had proved his abilities to hammer the ball hard. Because of his superb outings in the KPL, the right-handed batter was picked by Mumbai Indians in the IPL last year. However, he did not feature in the playing XI for the whole season. But during the IPL auction for the 11th edition, Gowtham bagged a whopping 6.2 crore from Rajasthan Royals.

During Rajasthan Royal’s last encounter against Mumbai Indians, Gowtham proved why the franchise was ready to give such a huge money to the player. Royals were chasing a target and were staring at defeat when Gowtham walked in. They needed 43 runs in 17 balls. Gowtham played a blinder of an innings and his 11-ball 33 runs helped the side clinch the game for Royals.

I haven’t proven my credentials as of now: Gowtham

Royals hadn’t played a game ever since and the side has got time to look into their performance. Gowtham while speaking with sports portal Sportstar said that it was exciting to be the part of the winning side. “It’s a wonderful feeling that the game came out really well. Being a part of winning side is the best feeling you can have. Yes, people start recognizing you and that’s the good part about it,” said Gowtham.

However, Gowtham suggested that he hasn’t performed to his full potential. He said that he wishes to perform with both bat and ball. He said that he wants to improve on a number of places in the coming games. “I wouldn’t say I have proven my credentials as of now. There is something still lacking, I think I need to do both – bat and bowl – in the same game. That’s when I would say I have done something for the team. There are a lot of places that I can improve and I look forward to doing it in coming games,” said the Karnataka-born player.

IPL gives a platform to showcase skills

Gowtham said that IPL has given a platform where one can show their skills which are watched by a huge audience. “It’s a bigger stage, a bigger audience watching you and everyone knows what you can do with the ball and bat. It has given me a stage to express myself better,” he told Sportstar.
