Waqar Younis congratulates Ashwin on achieving the 200 wicket milestone

Pakistan’s fast bowling great Waqar Younis has congratulated off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for entering the prestigious 200 wicket club yesterday. Sourav Ganguly had also earlier praised the off-spinner and predicted many more such milestones for him in the future.

The ace off spinner reached the milestone in just 37 matches and overtook Waqar Younis who did it on 38 matches way back in the year 1994. Only Australia’s yesteryear leg spinner Claire Grimmet sits ahead of Ashwin with 36 matches.

Ashwin completed the milestone with the wicket of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. Ashwin, who was the fastest Indian to the 50, 100, and 150 wicket landmark, is also the fastest to 200 wickets.

Ashwin was on wicket taking spree in the first test. He was at usual dominant best in the game taking 4/93 in the first innings and 6/132 in the second innings to play the lead role in India’s win in the 500th Test at Kanpur.

Courtesy to his fantastic bowling, India notched up a comfortable 196 runs win in the first test and take a 1-0 lead in the three match series. The Indians asserted their supremacy completely to bow out the Black Caps for just 236 after setting a huge target of 434 runs to win.

Initially, the vistors batted boldly with Ronchi and Santner frustrating the India bowlers in the first hour of the morning session. However, once Jadeja dismissed Ronchi after the drinks break, the gates opened and Ashwin ran through the batting order to help India finish the game 40 minutes after the lunch.
