Waqar Younis puts forth a tactic to get rid of Virat Kohli
"Well, everyone’s got a weakness."
Virat Kohli, the Indian right-handed batsman, is currently one of the most feared batsmen across all the three formats. He is one of the very few cricketers to have succeeded in all the countries. Prior to every series, opponents spent hours behind churning out strategies to get rid of Kohli cheaply. However, most of them have failed as the Delhi-born cricketer has gone from strength to strength.
Recently, he became the leading run scorer in India’s five-match Test series against England and Kohli put to rest the discussions surrounding his vulnerability to play under seaming conditions, scoring 593 in five matches with a couple of centuries. In the meantime, Waqar Younis, the former Pakistani bowler, reckons one can’t afford to deviate from the plans much in order to get under Kohli’s skins.
“Well, everyone’s got a weakness and he has been found at times outside the off stump because he likes to drive early on. I think as a bowler you have got to be sensible when you are bowling at him. You can’t really challenge him. You have to stick to your plans I guess,” Waqar was quoted as saying in Khaleej Times.
He is such a good player
Kohli has got out on quite a few instances, fending outside the off-stump. Waqar also mentioned that he would have gone for the out-swinger from a back-of-a-length, luring Kohli to play the ambitious drive through the covers.
“And the best plan is if you are an outswing bowler, which I was in my days as a fast bowler in international cricket, I will probably bowl to him outside the off stump and look to take the ball away from him with a bit of short of a length and ask him to drive.
Probably that’s the only hope I have got, but once he gets settled, the conditions don’t really matter because he is such a good player,” he added.
After taking a break from the Asia Cup, Virat is now scheduled to return for India’s Test and limited-overs series against the Windies, starting October 4.
