Waqar Younis ready to resign as Pakistan's bowling coach if unable to deliver the targets

Waqar Younis, the great Pakistani pacer, who is currently serving as the bowling coach of the national team, has cleared that he will be resigning from the role if he is not able to deliver on the targets. This is not the first time, he is linked to Pakistan cricket team after hanging up his boots from international cricket.

He was appointed the bowling coach of Pakistan in 2006 and was promoted to be the head coach in 2010. He resigned from the post in 2011 and again rejoined in May of 2014, before quitting in April 2016. Waqar Younis again got back to working with the team as the bowling coach after the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup and is currently on a three-year contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Waqar Younis has said that he will be reviewing his work after a year. He also laid out his plan and wants to prepare a settle bowling attack for Pakistan especially in the longest format of the game. The 48-year-old, however, also clarified that they will adopting a rotation policy for the bowlers in the shorter formats to let the players rest.

“I will be reviewing myself after a year and let me make it clear, if I feel I am not good enough for the job and I am not doing justice to it I will resign and leave myself. It is not as if because I have a three-year contract I will hang around. I have some set targets in mind and I want to help and groom the young fast bowlers.

“The way I look at it my plan is prepare a settled bowling attack for test cricket and keep a rotation policy for the white-ball formats. Where we adopt a horses for courses policy. Pick those who are in form for us,” he was quoted as saying by India Today.

Waqar Younis also praised the current crop of bowlers playing for Pakistan and also made clear that he and his team are also keeping an eye on the Pakistani domestic scene to look for newer talents to represent the nation.
