Washington Sundar clears Yo-Yo test, in line to get in India T20 squad
Also in the fray is Delhi's hard hitting batsman Nitish Rana.
Young Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar could potentially earn his maiden call-up to the national side. He is expected to be drafted in the Indian team for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. Sundar was expected to be named in the Indian squad for the T20I series against Australia a month ago.
However, it was his failure to pass the yo-yo fitness test that proved to be a big hindrance for him and was not included in the squad. But recently, Sundar passed the test at the National Cricket Academy at Bengaluru. And hence, is all clear to play for the national side. One of the BCCI officials hinted at the same recently.
Sundar’s form in the domestic circuit has been phenomenal with both bat and the ball for Tamil Nadu. Also in the fray is Delhi’s hard hitting batsman Nitish Rana. Rana has scored two tons this season already in the Ranji Trophy and has cleared the yo-yo test as well.
“The selection committee is looking at a couple of bright prospects. Washington has been doing well as an off-spinning allrounder. There are a few youngsters who have been performing in the domestic circuit. But it remains to be seen whom the team management opt for this series,” said a BCCI source as per the quotes in Cricbuzz.
Sigh of relief for Washington Sundar
While the selection remains to be seen, Sundar is a relieved man for the fact that he has cleared the fitness test. This was his second attempt at the test and he conceded that he was certainly better prepared for it than the last time.
“It’s a relief. I was asked to do it two days back. I was more prepared this time around than what I was in the previous occasion. I had worked hard on the fitness front and conditioned myself. It’s a confidence booster for me,” Washington Sundar had told TOI on Sunday.
