Sunrisers Hyderabad missed Washington Sundar’s bowling services during the IPL 2022 clash against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday (May 1) as the all-rounder re-injured his right hand. SRH head coach Tom Moody confirmed the same, raising doubts over Sundar’s availability for the next game against Delhi Capitals. Notably, the off-spinner made a comeback to the playing XI in the clash against Gujarat Titans after missing three games due to split webbing in his bowling hand.

As the 22-year-old sustained an injury in the same area while fielding against CSK, he wasn’t able to bowl a single delivery. While the southpaw did come to bat, his stay in the middle lasted only two balls. As a result, SRH lost the game by 13 runs at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Following the conclusion of the contest, Moody threw light on Sundar’s injury and also admitted that his inability to bowl cost SRH the game.

Washington Sundar’s hand not injured to the point that he needs it re-stitched: Tom Moody

“It’s very unfortunate that he had a knock on the same hand were he split his webbing. It had healed completely but he re-injured that area, it’s not injured to the point that he needs it re-stitched. But unfortunately, it wasn’t in a state were he could bowl. It really did have an impact on for us in that early phase of bowling, given he has such a critical bowler for us,” Moody said at the post-match presentation.

Meanwhile, SRH’s famed bowling attack endured a horrendous outing against CSK as openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (99) and Devon Conway (85 not out) scored runs for fun. T Natarajan was the only wicket-taker from the Orange Army as the left-arm pacer dismissed two batters. Chasing a massive total of 203 runs, SRH batters did well and were in the hunt till the very end.

However, they were eventually restricted to 189/6, losing the contest by 13 runs. Notably, SRH have now suffered two successive defeats and they must bounce back sooner than later.
