Washington Sundar stuns the Gabba crowd with his no look six off Nathan Lyon
Sundar smacked 62 runs during his 144-ball stay as India scored 336 runs in their first innings.
Team India has shown amazing resilience in the ongoing Test series against Australia. Only Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have played all four Tests while eight of the first-choice players got injured during the course of the series. This led to India fielding a very inexperienced bowling attack for the decider with Washington Sundar and T Natarajan making their Test debuts.
Both of them impressed with the ball picking up three wickets each while Sundar even did his job with the bat when India needed him the most. He came out to bat at number seven after Mayank Agarwal got out with the team’s score only at 161/5 and it soon turned 186/6.
This is when Washington Sundar joined hands with Shardul Thakur and stitched a wonderful, resolute 123-run partnership keeping Australia at bay. In the process, the all-rounder also managed to smack Nathan Lyon for a huge six as well. The specialty about that maximum was, it was a no-look six from Sundar over mid-on and the man was so confident that he didn’t even bother to see if he has cleared the ropes.
The shot left the commentators on-air and of course, the crowd, stunned as the former went gaga praising the youngster for his temperament and batting.

Washington Sundar owns a unique record
Washington Sundar showed amazing nerves on debut and scored 62 runs off 144 balls with seven fours and a six to his name. His 62 is the highest score since 1911 for a number seven debutant by a visiting player in Australia. The visitors, on the back of the Sundar and Thakur’s exceptional batting, managed to post 336 runs in the first innings cutting down Australia‘s led to only 33 runs.
At one stage, the Aussies were keen on bundling out India for around 230-250 and would’ve hoped to stretch their lead to 200 by the end of the day. But that wasn’t the case and with rain around, the hosts will have to do all the running over the next couple of days.
