The Pakistan cricket team didn’t have a great outing in the Asia Cup 2018. The entire unit struggled to come together to put up an inspirational show in the tournament. Pakistan, one of the favourites in the tournament, was knocked out after the dismal show in the super-four stage.
They lost both the games against arch-rivals India and had a few close shaves against the other teams. The team has faced severe criticism after the poor show and faced the brunt of the fans. However, the former skipper, Wasim Akram seemed to be confident about the team bouncing back. He also analysed the other teams and put forward his opinions.
Wasim Akram analyses the Asian teams’ performances
While speaking to AFP, the left-arm fast bowler shared his opinions about all the teams’ performance in the Asian battle. He heaped praises on India and added that they were way ahead of the other teams. Akram credited the IPL for the upbringing of youngsters and the stellar performances. Despite the regular skipper Virat Kohli’s absence, the other players turned up and challenged the oppositions on most occasions.
“India proved to be well ahead of everyone. Their exposure is greater, they have financial benefits and the money invested in their system like the Indian Premier League is bearing fruits,” he said. At the same time, he also said that he was confident of Pakistan bouncing back with another eight months left for the World Cup. Further, he also noted that Bangladesh had a very inspirational skipper in Mashrafe Mortaza and termed Afghanistan to be a dangerous team.
“It’s hard to predict eight months in advance but I am sure Pakistan will bounce back. They have some serious work to do in both bowling and batting. Bangladesh have an inspirational captain in Mashrafe Mortaza and Afghanistan is becoming a dangerous team,” he added.
