In the currently ongoing Ashes series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), David Warner’s dependable batting in the fourth match of the series has put the hosts in quite a strong position against England. And in both the innings, Warner played crucial knocks along with the captain Steve Smith who brought up a century in the second innings.
During the first innings, Warner scored his 21st Test century which helped the Australian squad to put up 327 runs on the board. Warner scored 103 runs before losing his wicket to a jaffa delivery by James Anderson. As an answer to the Australian batting, Alaister Cook scored 244 runs which helped the guests to surpass the Australian score easily.
In the second innings though, as against his natural explosive batting tendency, Warner scored his slowest 50 as the Australians kept losing wickets and the innings needed stability. With 84 runs scored, Warner played a lousy shot to a delivery by the part-time spinner Joe Root and ended up losing his wicket.
However, said and done that delivery from the English skipper was a peach of a delivery as the left-handed Warner had no clue on how to play that ripper from Root.
The day ended with the Australians at 261/4 on the board as both the skippers decided that the match would end as a draw after frustrations from both the sides. The series would now proceed to the last encounter at the SCG, Sydney, which according to the experts is a turning track. Australia have roped in the left-arm spinner Ashton Agar into the squad, who might get a chance to bowl in Sydney alongside offie Nathan Lyon.
